Mad Catz to Unveil Own Android Gaming Console


Are Android-based gaming consoles the future of home gaming? Judging by the amount of upcoming devices, it could be. Known for making computer peripherals, Mad Catz is throwing its hat to the brewing competition as it is set to unveil its own Android console that could give the Ouya a run for its money.
Known only by its code name, Project M.O.J.O., Mad Catz’s upcoming console will be introduced to the publc at E3 annual gaming conference on June 11 in Los Angeles.
Mad Catz President and CEO Darren Richardson says in a press statement that Project M.O.J.O. is “configured to harness the maximum gaming horsepower from an Android device.” The executive adds that the device is designed to word compatibly with his company’s current GameSmart line of wireless controllers, mice, keyboards, and headsets.
“With our long history in the gaming industry, Mad Catz has the technical capability, product breadth, global distribution, and developer and publisher relationships that uniquely position our company to embark on this ambitious initiative,” Richardson says. “We believe the GameSmart initiative fits perfectly with our long-term strategy of designing innovative products for passionate gamers and our strategy of expanding into emerging markets.”
Mad Catz is not the only company joining the Android console battle. BlueStacks has been accepting pre-orders for its GamePop Android micro console, with shipping expected to arrive by the end of June. GamePop has set the bar in pricing: the console is completely free and buyers simply pay for shipping and subscribe for $6.99 a month to gain access to over 500 games.
